1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

1. a shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and visuals
the link is the lyrics in this shot. the lyrics are "Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them bye" and the dancers wave bye.

2. a shot that typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented
the record company would wont to represent the artist like this as she looks glamorous and the big close up shows her as the centre of attention, she is the star.

3. a shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre
i think this shot represents the genre of a pop song as they are dressed in stylish and glamorous clothing associated with pop and they are wearing lots of make up like a typical pop artist.

4. a shot that shows an intertextual reference
this shot is similar to chipmunk "diamond rings" in the changing room. it also has reference to the film Bugsy Malone in the changing room. but in my video there is a lot more colour.

5. a shot that demonstrates your use of camera
This shot is a panning shot from the light to hannah. the movement of the camera give the video pace and makes the shot more interesting than just cutting from the light to the performer.

6. a shot that demonstrates your use of lighting
we asked the junction to set up some of the lights in the performance area. the technician set up the lights for use to use. we then filmed shot from the best angle that "showed off" the light the best.

7. a shot that demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene
the lip stick is the front and center of this shot. it represents glamour and beauty, lipstick if for the lips emphasizing her lips singing, being a glamorous performer.

8/9. Two shots which you feel demonstrate something which shows you have watched other music videos
i think these two shots show that i have watch other music videos as my video has a dance routine lip many other videos. also a lot of music videos use out of focus shot like what i have used.

1. a shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and visuals
the link is the visuals and the lyrics. the lyrics are "makes a man go "whistle". in the visuals the singer whistles with the lyrics.
2. a shot that typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented
this shot shows the way the record company would like to represent the singer beyonce. in the shot she looks glamorous, sexy, curvy which the record company would wont to "sell"
3. a shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre.
this is a clear shot of 50 cent being a Gangster rapper. the shot is a stereotypical shot of a rapper in baggy "hip" clothing, with big bling.
4. a shot that shows an intertextual reference
the intertextural reference in this shot is eminem pretending to be on the ship of star trek with D.R.E as the captain.
5. a shot that demonstrates your use of camera
this is a good shot showing camera work as the camera lifts from the ground into a high shot over the dancers.
6. a shot that demonstrates your use of lighting
this is a clear shot of good lighting in the video "i need you" by N Dubz. the lighting in this shot makes it look 10 times better as it looks more interesting and also it works with the camera movement.
7. a shot that demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene
the mise-en-scene in this video is very good. from the costume of the extras to the buildings in the background, the van in the street and the tall chimneys in the background behind the buildings.

the similarities between the two album covers is that there is a big picture of the artist in the middle of the cover with bold text that stands out. the back cover is very similar as well as they both have plain backgrounds as it caries on from the background in the front cover.
i chose a scarface theme for my poster as it is an iconic and very recognisable poster which will draw in peoples attention to the poster.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

my digi-pack is related to my video as it is in the same style/genre as the video. i also used photos from our location to use in my digi-pack. the poster and my digi-pack also link together well, both using the same font, the colours also match each other. i also chose to style my music poster like the famous and very recodnisible scarface poster as it is an iconic film that alot of people know, this will atract atention to the poster and make people read on. my music video is also is set in the same "times" as scarface giving it another conection.

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

through out making my music video i received peer feedback and teacher feed back. this helped in the making of my video as it gave me a wider view of what needed to be done to my video and ideas to improve my project.
1. class and teacher feedback on your initial treatment. the initial feedback on my treatment was it was a good idea but very ambitious and would need scaling down without making the video looking tacky and unprofessional. we originally were hoping to film in a jazz club but realised that this wasn't going to happen so we rethought are location and decided to use the junction as the college has connections there and also we could get a professional technician to help us with the lighting which was key in our video.
2. rough cut- class feedback and teacher feedback.
our general feedback on our video was that some parts of our video was out of sync and that there should be more shots of the girls dancing and the boys playing cards. we took all of the comments into consideration and decided to introduce more shots of the girls dancing. we also decided to shoot some shots of the boys playing cards with the singer singing around them but unfortunately we ran out of shooting time as it would of cut into our editing time which we needed a lot.
3. class feedback on your digi-pack roughs.
the general feedback on my digi-pack and poster was mainly constructive as i had done very little on my digi-pack. mainly peoples feedback was that it needs to be more stylised like the video.
4. final feedback.
the feedback on my final video was that it looked very professional, the lighting was very good and the dancers worked very well in the video. people also said that they liked the pace of the video and how it was cut. the only criticism of my video was that there was only two shot of the card playing. if i had more time i would shoot more shots of the card game and add them into the video.

we also received feedback from a film maker called Ben Gee. this is what he had to say about my video.
"nice cuts, professional look; good fades, light used well, very good use of mix shots with big close ups and shared shot on screen; care in filming and edited very well; doubled up shots very nicely done; blur effect good; all good quality, no bad shots; cards at end make it look pro"
i am very please with the feedback from him as i am proud to think that a professional film maker had such a positive response to the video and said it looks pro.

4.How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

here is a picture of all the equipment, software and websites i used to create my music video.

to film my music video i used a HD camera and a HD tape as i noticed while filming my rough cut that a lower quolity tape didn't look very good.

Final cut.
i used final cut to edit the video as it is the best program that is avalible to me to use to edit.
photoshop.
i used photoshop to create my digi-pack and poster as it is the best software avalible to create graphic imigary.
i used the cram website/blogger to show my research.
i used itunes to listen to the song
i used vimeo to upload my video.
i used youtube to research other music videos.
i used flickr to upload images of the project and my final digi-pack and poster.

if i had more time

if i had more time on my music video i would add loads more footage of the boys playing cards with the singer singing around them. this would make the shots at the start relevant to the video more. i would also cast for dancers as well as the three girls did i would like a better dance routine which would give me better shots of dance to put in. i would also re-shoot some footage as some angles may have worked better than what we had and it would be nice to work with even more footage to edit. also to have more footage of Hannah singing as some parts she had not learnt the words to the song so we had to cut away from that shot or not cut to her singing and have to carry on a shot of dancing.

digi-pack & poster

Poster.

for my poster i chose a scarface theme as it is iconic and very recognizable to people. this would catch the eye of the public as they would be intrigued to see what is on the poster.

Digi-pack.

the design on the CD will be the record with part of the record player showing on it and underneigth the CD on the digi-pack

i created my digi-pack on photoshop, i used black and white filter on my pictures and used a brush affect on them to give them the look and texture they have. i chose the font from www.dafont.com as i thought it looked very interesting and fitted well with the style of the video and i really liked the look of it.

HANNAH, LOUIS & CHARNA - 'WICKED LITTLE GIRLS' ROUGH CUT from cmdiploma on Vimeo.

Friday, 5 March 2010

this morning me and hannah carried on editing the music video. we got on well and done alot in one hour. hopefully our progress will continue through the afternoon.

Thursday, 4 March 2010

thursday 4th march

today we will hopefully film the poker scene for our video, as before we didn't film it in HD and also as a group we feel that the poker idea could give the video more shape and have a more decisive theme.

feedback lesson

what have i learnt from looking at other peoples work?

i have learnt that it looks better if you use your own pictures instead of taking them off the internet. some of the-packs used different effects on there pictures that looked really good. this has given me ideas digi as for my digi-pack. a lot of people used conventions (retailers, barcodes, ratings ect).

what changes will i make today based on what you have seen?

today i will take some of my own photos for my digi-pack and use some photos i took while we where filming my music video to put in my Digi-pack. i will also look for fonts that are suitable for the CD case and poster.

filming our music video footage at the junction

yesterday we filmed our footage at the junction. we went to the junction at 1.00 to meet simon bates who showed us the changing rooms and a performance area with lighting that where could use. the filming went really well and everyone was very professional about what they where doing. when looking at the footage we noticed that the camera went in and out of focus at some points also that there were some shots were you could see curtains open and hannah was in some shots when she wasn't supposed to be.

friday collerage lesson

today we wondered around Coleridge with digital cameras snapping pictures that related to our music video idea... me and Hannah thought we should take pictures of the layout of where our cast will stand. i think the layout looks good and authentic to a jazz club layout. we also took photos of instruments that would be in our set.

i would like to say thank you to Rob, Jahmal, Max, Tom B and Emma for being in our photos and helping us out!

hurtwood house video

team production meeting

today we had a production meeting with our group. we where in disagreement with our ideas. after a long discussion we decided to do a Bugsy Malone/jazz style video as we decided as a group that it fits the song best. our ideas where made clear and now everyone understands the idea of the video.
yesterday i told a friend about my music video idea. he like it but he ask one question. "wouldn't it look tacky with just teenagers?"
then i fought that we should go for a Bugsy Malone feel. i think this will be effective as well as it would be easy to cast people in our video as we can use friends.

feedback

today we pitched for our music video, while we were giving the pitch people were writing feedback for us...
the feedback was generally the same... people liked the idea. also people asked where would we find a jazz club. our reply was we would create a set.

here are other comments made...

  • Location might be hard to find.
  • Add more detail to what the video will actually be like.
  • It may be hard to get a decent car.
  • Good Concept.
  • Well thought out costumes and make up.
  • Sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
  • The theme fits the song well.
  • Clear idea.
  • Dance routine sounds interesting.
  • a lot of research has been done.
  • Ambitious idea.
  • The beginning sounds interesting.
we will use this feedback to improve our idea.

wicked little girls.

when i heard wicked little girls for the first time i immediately fort of big band, Chicago and jazz clubs. this is a live version of wicked little girls by esthero

in my video i hope to create a jazz club feel. like in the chipmunk diamond rings video

mood board

we created this mood board for Number One Enemy by Daisy Dares you, this is because this is our back up song and so i thought i would create a mood board with some of our ideas on it.

wicked little girls.

Wicked Little Girls Lyrics.

Wicked little girls, kissed the boys and made them cry
Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them by
And some might say we're wicked little girls
With curves and kissers and pearly whites
You better keep an eye on your boys and lock em up tight

You think that I'm a lady? You think that I won't fight?
I'll make your eyes shine like a liliqoi moonlit night whoa oh
You think you're my one and only, only?
Sophisticated Yoni told me:
"You gots to love livin' while you livin' or you won't love life"

I'm the high pimpstress, I'm honeybrown
I'm the baddest bitch to ever hit this town
Cornbread woman, yo ho and a bottle of yum
I'm gonna have a party with my body, do ya wanna come?
Well alright

Cause we're such wicked little girls, kissed the boys and made them cry
Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them by
And some might say we're wicked little girls
With curves and kissers and pearly whites
You better keep an eye on your boys and lock em up tight

Hey girls, I'm back again, that vixen nobel and I brought a friend
Bend the rules, headline "bad news", it's the Sisters of Salem, they on the loose
Shakin' her caboose like Dottie, Octopussy like a James Bond hottie
Smokin' like a Cuban, when you're with Mikey Reuban, better know what you're doin'
Or get kicked out right away, gonna hide away
I'd advise you not to play with those

Wicked little girls, kissed the boys and made them cry
Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them by
And some might say we're wicked little girls
With curves and kissers and pearly whites
You better keep an eye on your boys and lock em up tight
[2x]

Here come those devils, cheeky sneaky rebels
Every day and every night, hot steppin is what we like

Wicked little girls, kissed the boys and made them cry
Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them by
Some might say we're wicked little girls
With curves and kissers and pearly whites
You better keep an eye on your boys and lock em up tight
[2x]

treatment

Esthero - “Wicked Little Girls”

I want the look of the video to have a jazzy feel to it, it will have a lot of dance to create interest and keep the viewers hooked. The look will be based on the genre “show girls” but stripped back slightly, so it’s not so full on that it looks tacky. There will be a variety of looks of different people in the video, so everyone looks different and stands out in their own way. The type of dance routine I plan to use is jazz, this is because I believe it fits in well with the theme showgirls. I also would like the video to look slightly like the Moulin rouge and Chicago where its all about glitz and glamour. A lot of this will be done through different lighting and costumes. I will be able to create the look of all people in the video, which will include make up. My idea of the makeup should be big and bold but the main feature should be the eyes, this means fake eyelashes and full on eye shadow.

I want the video to be set in a jazz club with a band playing instruments such as the sax to get a real feel of the scene. If we are not able to find a jazz club to use, we can create the set in college where we can set up a band on stage.

In the video I would like there to be backing singers which could be wearing corsets to fit in with the whole showgirl/ jazz scene, they will be trying to seduce the men in the club through little expression, for an example winking etc. This is to link with the song, as it is about girls playing with boy’s emotions.

The beginning of the video starts simply with the girls getting ready to perform, so this shows them putting on their makeup etc, there will be a close up of the main singer with all her makeup, and lots of mid shots of the girls getting ready. From this scene we will cut it to a man walking in to the jazz club with a few friends, he will be dressed relatively different in which he will be in a suit and the others dressed less smart, so maybe jeans and a shirt. This is to show importance; also it’s to show this is the main boy who’s going to get leered in by the girl’s tricks.
We then will cut from that scene to the stage where you can see the band starting to play there music, there then will be a low shot where the girls start to walk on stage and perform. As you see this shot we will cut back to boys to show their expressions from seeing the girls. Then there’s a close up of one of the girls winking, then zoom out from the wink and the girls start to sing. The camera then follows the girls round the stage as they start to dance and try to make the boys join in with their flirty ways, however the main singer stays on stage. There are a few close ups of faces of the men with their “ happy” expressions on there faces, and some long shots of the girls dancing. There will be a mixture of shots from the back up singers dancing, to the band, to shots of just the main singer, I think the mix up shorts will keep the viewer interested. The end shot will be the girls walking back stage and jumping on to some kind of chair looking and laughing at each other. Then it fades to black.

post card

We designed this post card to promote " wicked little girls" soon to come out music video. Our idea was to keep it simple but bold. We created this look through getting an image of the artist " Esthero" then putting a filter on it on Final Cut, this filter made the outline of her just show and took all color out of it. When we put the filter on, we thought it would be a good idea to make her eyes stand out and be the most prominent part of the image. In this case we decided to make them darker than everything else, which in my opinion brings the boldness to the post card.

mood board

This is our mood board we created this lesson. Our mood board is to represent our ideas for the song "wicked Little Girls". At first welistened to the lyrics in the song, and decided the song was about girls playing with boys emotions. This made us think of many things, we decided to look up things like Chicago the musical because of the dances in it, and we believe that if we put a dance in our video we could create a routine like that. We also thought of costumes which we thought would go well with the song, for example we thought that corsets would be a good item to use as it could been seen as a "seductive" outfit. We also got images of feathers, as the song had that hole show girl theme towards it and feathers can be associatedto show girls.

Possible Sound Tracks for our music video.

1) I'm not your enemy.
2) Wicked Little girls.
3) Everywhere.

For all these tracks we have a clear idea of what we could do with each of them, and belive we will get a very good out come if get to use the songs we have chosen.

music list

Music list

These are the songs we have been given to choose from for our music video. Our groups favourites were Wicked Little Girls, I'm not your enemy, 1234 and Everywhere. This is because we all had different ideas for this tracks and as soon as they started to play we felt like they would be easy to lip sync to as we know the songs. The only problem with these songs are that they could be to well know, however i believe we could do a lot with them if we get the chance to use them.

The other songs in the list, we felt that we couldn't really do much with them and a lot of them were quite similar. We felt it would be harder to lip sync the songs as none of us are very familiar with the songs, in which we felt it would be best if we roughly knew the lyrics to the songs so it looks more believable when lip syncing.

jasmine blackborow's presentation

Today a university student called jasmine Blackborow came to our lesson to talk to us about her music video that won a prize in the BBC blast competition and about her three weeks at the BBC. she made this video for her a level media with three other girls.

after her gap year and celebrating the good news she met the producer. her name is "margo". jasmine described her to be a very important person in the music video industry. jasmine was the director for the music video. she worked for "black dog productions". jasmine was given the song "let's dance to joy division" by the wombats. jasmine created a number of spider diagrams to show her ideas, here is one...

then she had to create something called a treatment. a treatment is a paper version of the music video. it is also used in the pitch for a music video. it consists of every idea that is going to be in the video and it has to be highly detailed. for example she had to find a picture of the exact type of confetti she wanted.

jasmine made storyboards to show what goes where. a spot list to show what happens in each scene and a lyrics time line to show what happens when key lyrics where said.

at the end jasmine gave a few tips on how to create a successful music video:

"Make sure that you motivate your actors and be very specific when telling them what to do."

"Keep location to a minimum and only have 2-3."

"There are no limits to what you can do."

"Just go out and enjoy it."

personal statement

technical skills:
i feel i am good at editing in final cut and using photoshop. i worked at Cambridge news for work experience using photoshop to create adverts.

special powers:
my special power is that i can act and i am willing to do so for any group that needs actors. i gained these skills from acting school which i used to go to. i have featured in films and T.V programs such as eastenders, Troy, kerching, silent witness, and many more. i was a lead role in a education film called "great fun", this proves i am willing and able to take a lead role. i also may be able to gain access to a very big house. if needed

creativity:
i think i am a very creative person. i have always loved to draw and perform. again i will be willing to perform in any ones music video.
Organisation skills:
i feel i am quite organised, i arrive to college and work on time and football training and matches. i was organised with my "Risk" blog and i hope i will continue this with my music video blog.

music animation video

here is my music animation video. i created different coloured circles and shapes in photoshop. i then saved them and tranfured them to final cut. in final cut i created the video by matching the coloured dots to the beat of the music. i like my video as it lookes like a disco light display.

ancillary practice task.

here is my poster i created in lesson for a band called Amsterdam. the poster and cd case have a desert/beach theme. i chose this as i feel that the fans of the band could get lost in there music like the man in the desert. it looks peaceful like certain tracks on the album. the poster is based on the cd cover.

this is the cd case i created for amsterdam. i like the front cover the most. the favourite part of my case is how the words amsterdam and arm in arms are divided by the horison

here is mine and robs edited vertion of let me entertain you. the task was to created footage to the song so we can practice our lip synching skills. i think me and rob edited well together and i hope to work with rob again soon

Task 1:

here is the first music video me and Jahmal made. i think the video looks really good. the video matches the pace of the music well and to the beat. we both contributed to what clips should go where and we were pleased with our music video and our teamwork.

here is mine and Jahmal's lip-synch video. i am pleased with the lip synch as the video works and it looks like she is singing the words.

Robbie by Robbie and louie from cmdiploma on Vimeo.

today we created a music video,

Task 2:

the music video i have chosen is 'warrior's dance' by the prodigy. i really like this music video, the things i like the most are the camera shot and the performance. its really cleaver how the paper men transform from a cigarette packet. i also like the performance in the video, where the three paper men go into the bar and start a raging party, start a fire and then casually walk away as i there job has been done. the camera shots are interesting capturing action and emotions from the characters.
