1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

1. a shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and visuals
the link is the lyrics in this shot. the lyrics are "Raisin' double trouble every time we pass them bye" and the dancers wave bye.

2. a shot that typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented
the record company would wont to represent the artist like this as she looks glamorous and the big close up shows her as the centre of attention, she is the star.

3. a shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre
i think this shot represents the genre of a pop song as they are dressed in stylish and glamorous clothing associated with pop and they are wearing lots of make up like a typical pop artist.

4. a shot that shows an intertextual reference
this shot is similar to chipmunk "diamond rings" in the changing room. it also has reference to the film Bugsy Malone in the changing room. but in my video there is a lot more colour.

5. a shot that demonstrates your use of camera
This shot is a panning shot from the light to hannah. the movement of the camera give the video pace and makes the shot more interesting than just cutting from the light to the performer.

6. a shot that demonstrates your use of lighting
we asked the junction to set up some of the lights in the performance area. the technician set up the lights for use to use. we then filmed shot from the best angle that "showed off" the light the best.

7. a shot that demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene
the lip stick is the front and center of this shot. it represents glamour and beauty, lipstick if for the lips emphasizing her lips singing, being a glamorous performer.

8/9. Two shots which you feel demonstrate something which shows you have watched other music videos
i think these two shots show that i have watch other music videos as my video has a dance routine lip many other videos. also a lot of music videos use out of focus shot like what i have used.

1. a shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and visuals
the link is the visuals and the lyrics. the lyrics are "makes a man go "whistle". in the visuals the singer whistles with the lyrics.
2. a shot that typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented
this shot shows the way the record company would like to represent the singer beyonce. in the shot she looks glamorous, sexy, curvy which the record company would wont to "sell"
3. a shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre.
this is a clear shot of 50 cent being a Gangster rapper. the shot is a stereotypical shot of a rapper in baggy "hip" clothing, with big bling.
4. a shot that shows an intertextual reference
the intertextural reference in this shot is eminem pretending to be on the ship of star trek with D.R.E as the captain.
5. a shot that demonstrates your use of camera
this is a good shot showing camera work as the camera lifts from the ground into a high shot over the dancers.
6. a shot that demonstrates your use of lighting
this is a clear shot of good lighting in the video "i need you" by N Dubz. the lighting in this shot makes it look 10 times better as it looks more interesting and also it works with the camera movement.
7. a shot that demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene
the mise-en-scene in this video is very good. from the costume of the extras to the buildings in the background, the van in the street and the tall chimneys in the background behind the buildings.

the similarities between the two album covers is that there is a big picture of the artist in the middle of the cover with bold text that stands out. the back cover is very similar as well as they both have plain backgrounds as it caries on from the background in the front cover.
i chose a scarface theme for my poster as it is an iconic and very recognisable poster which will draw in peoples attention to the poster.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

my digi-pack is related to my video as it is in the same style/genre as the video. i also used photos from our location to use in my digi-pack. the poster and my digi-pack also link together well, both using the same font, the colours also match each other. i also chose to style my music poster like the famous and very recodnisible scarface poster as it is an iconic film that alot of people know, this will atract atention to the poster and make people read on. my music video is also is set in the same "times" as scarface giving it another conection.

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

through out making my music video i received peer feedback and teacher feed back. this helped in the making of my video as it gave me a wider view of what needed to be done to my video and ideas to improve my project.
1. class and teacher feedback on your initial treatment. the initial feedback on my treatment was it was a good idea but very ambitious and would need scaling down without making the video looking tacky and unprofessional. we originally were hoping to film in a jazz club but realised that this wasn't going to happen so we rethought are location and decided to use the junction as the college has connections there and also we could get a professional technician to help us with the lighting which was key in our video.
2. rough cut- class feedback and teacher feedback.
our general feedback on our video was that some parts of our video was out of sync and that there should be more shots of the girls dancing and the boys playing cards. we took all of the comments into consideration and decided to introduce more shots of the girls dancing. we also decided to shoot some shots of the boys playing cards with the singer singing around them but unfortunately we ran out of shooting time as it would of cut into our editing time which we needed a lot.
3. class feedback on your digi-pack roughs.
the general feedback on my digi-pack and poster was mainly constructive as i had done very little on my digi-pack. mainly peoples feedback was that it needs to be more stylised like the video.
4. final feedback.
the feedback on my final video was that it looked very professional, the lighting was very good and the dancers worked very well in the video. people also said that they liked the pace of the video and how it was cut. the only criticism of my video was that there was only two shot of the card playing. if i had more time i would shoot more shots of the card game and add them into the video.

we also received feedback from a film maker called Ben Gee. this is what he had to say about my video.
"nice cuts, professional look; good fades, light used well, very good use of mix shots with big close ups and shared shot on screen; care in filming and edited very well; doubled up shots very nicely done; blur effect good; all good quality, no bad shots; cards at end make it look pro"
i am very please with the feedback from him as i am proud to think that a professional film maker had such a positive response to the video and said it looks pro.

4.How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

here is a picture of all the equipment, software and websites i used to create my music video.

to film my music video i used a HD camera and a HD tape as i noticed while filming my rough cut that a lower quolity tape didn't look very good.

Final cut.
i used final cut to edit the video as it is the best program that is avalible to me to use to edit.
photoshop.
i used photoshop to create my digi-pack and poster as it is the best software avalible to create graphic imigary.
i used the cram website/blogger to show my research.
i used itunes to listen to the song
i used vimeo to upload my video.
i used youtube to research other music videos.
i used flickr to upload images of the project and my final digi-pack and poster.

if i had more time

if i had more time on my music video i would add loads more footage of the boys playing cards with the singer singing around them. this would make the shots at the start relevant to the video more. i would also cast for dancers as well as the three girls did i would like a better dance routine which would give me better shots of dance to put in. i would also re-shoot some footage as some angles may have worked better than what we had and it would be nice to work with even more footage to edit. also to have more footage of Hannah singing as some parts she had not learnt the words to the song so we had to cut away from that shot or not cut to her singing and have to carry on a shot of dancing.

digi-pack & poster

Poster.

for my poster i chose a scarface theme as it is iconic and very recognizable to people. this would catch the eye of the public as they would be intrigued to see what is on the poster.

Digi-pack.

the design on the CD will be the record with part of the record player showing on it and underneigth the CD on the digi-pack

i created my digi-pack on photoshop, i used black and white filter on my pictures and used a brush affect on them to give them the look and texture they have. i chose the font from www.dafont.com as i thought it looked very interesting and fitted well with the style of the video and i really liked the look of it.

Thursday, 4 March 2010

thursday 4th march

today we will hopefully film the poker scene for our video, as before we didn't film it in HD and also as a group we feel that the poker idea could give the video more shape and have a more decisive theme.

feedback lesson

what have i learnt from looking at other peoples work?

i have learnt that it looks better if you use your own pictures instead of taking them off the internet. some of the-packs used different effects on there pictures that looked really good. this has given me ideas digi as for my digi-pack. a lot of people used conventions (retailers, barcodes, ratings ect).

what changes will i make today based on what you have seen?

today i will take some of my own photos for my digi-pack and use some photos i took while we where filming my music video to put in my Digi-pack. i will also look for fonts that are suitable for the CD case and poster.
